Wonky Feelings
Showing my working. The underside. How the sausage is made. Behind the scenes. These works on paper are like secret studies but really I see them as important works in themselves. Most days I reach for the next one, the one that’s on top of a not quite even stack and I work into it, paint over it or make some sort of in the moment decision about where it goes next.
It is the favourite part of my day in the studio, one where I am lost in making these choices with complete freedom.
Each hacked piece of paper moves as the weeks and days pass up and down the stack, spending time on the floor, passed through hands, drenched in paint until its personality reveals itself. They are not mini-rehearsals for something bigger or more important, they create instead opportunities for me to think, to ease in and to expand.
